A safe deposit box is only useful if someone besides the account holder knows it exists, where the key is kept, and what is inside.
What Goes in the Custody Section
Every binder we assemble includes a custody map — a single page listing:
- Bank name and branch
- Box number
- Key location (home safe, relative’s home, attorney’s office)
- Authorised co-signers or agents
- Approximate contents (deed copies, jewellery appraisal, bullion certificates)
We do not list account balances or itemise every piece of jewellery. We list document types so the next person knows what to expect when the box is opened.
The Co-Signer Question
Korean banks allow joint access arrangements that vary by branch. During your session, we ask you to confirm who can open the box without the primary account holder present. This detail belongs on the custody map.
When the Key Is Missing
If you have a box but cannot locate the key, we note that on the index in red. The gap is visible. Hiding it helps nobody.
A Note on Privacy
The custody map stays inside your binder. We do not retain copies at our office unless you specifically request a sealed duplicate for your attorney.
